Most wanted

I have added a MOST WANTED page to the Blogg.

I got this idea while looking at a TNG site the other day.. Seems obvious when you think about it.. If you don't know the identity of the people in a picture, then you never will.

Pop it online and at least you have some sort of chance that someone might recognize them.

Sorted.. Please take a look. You never know.

Currant pictures are possibly BRYANT and GURR -- taken in the Kent south coast area..

Start 2017 with a bang.

Well it's been nearly a year since I have written here. Just goes to show how much family history I have been able to do lately.
So here I am again all fired up on the ancestral trail.
I have reinstated my Ancestry subscription and booked a small holiday to Kent to track down a few monuments etc.
I have also booked tickets to this years WDYTYA show at the NEC in Birmingham in April.

What got me back up and running I hear you cry.....

Well my wife has always wanted to get to know her family tree so we thought that we would have a go.
Now, the main branches of her family have been done before, and although it would be nice to explore those I thought it would be nice to go down an unknown route.
So we are exploring her grans mothers side (Nicholas) They are all from Sennen, Cornwall so a bonus there as we are only about 70 miles from there.
We have already come across a lighthouse keeper and an engraver, so things are looking up.

I have also got back into using my Heredis software as I don't like to store everything on Ancestry for fear of a major breakdown on their part.

I also notice that there is now a 2017 update for this software, so that might be my next purchase.

Anyway, happy hunting. I will try to keep this Blogg up to date with what I am doing just in case a distant cousin comes past.. See my research page for family names..

Find a Grave

Way back I looked at the Find a Grave site, but that was all it was a look.

A couple of days ago I had another look. This time I logged in and had a look around. I have found loads of information about relatives in Kent as well as adding some picture requests to the site.

When clicking around the site I found several local picture requests which at first I just casually scanned, but then when I saw the date that they had been posted I thought maybe I had better try to help.
The two requests I have picked out were posted  Jan 2015 and Oct 2013 so there has been plenty of time for someone else to do it.

As soon as the weather brightens up I will pop my wellies on and head off.

New start to my tree..

I have not posted here for a while. I have been over on my other blogg trying to get a Backgammon club up and running.  Anyway, I was looking at my family tree the other day and was thinking that I really must tidy it up and do some more research.
So with that in mind I have reactivated this Blogg in the home that someone out there may be researching the same as me.
I have already found two distant cousins via the internet so its not out of the question.

Names being researched at present are:
PRICE
WESTON
GURR
All around the Tenterden area of  Kent UK.

I am particularly interested in ANY information relating to JAMES or RICHARD WESTON  who were PRINTERS in Tenterden and Biddenden, Kent around 1800--1830.

Also ANY information related to GURR in SNARGATE, Kent.

So a short Blogg post to start. I will keep it updated as I uncover the skeletons. Please feel free to comment below on any aspect of this Blogg.   The search continues..

Research continues after WDYTYA

After a short break from family history I visited WDYTYA 2015 in Birmingham this April.
I just loved the amount of information available on that one day.

This Gave me a kick start to subscribe to the WDYTYA magazine for the bargain price of £5.00 for 6 issues on the day.
I also updated my subs for Ancestry.co.UK  so it's full steam ahead with the research.
At present I am researching:

PRICE in Kent
GURR in Kent
WESTON in Kent
MEE in Yorkshire and wiltshire
SHAW in yorkshire

Hoping to get out and about this year to explore the locations where my ancestors lived.

I am also interested in the Essex regiment per WW1.

The search finally continues.....

Saturday 8 November 2014

Free access...8th & 9th.

Just a quick post...this weekend Ancestry.co.UK and findmypast.com are offering free access... Findmypast is full worldwide access and Ancestry is military records only...
I know which one I will be using...

Good hunting......The search continues....

Alfred Price Project

My Great Grandad was called Alfred George Frederick Price. He was born in Stratford in 1874 and seems to have lead a very full life.
I never met him but I am very interested in his life story so I have decided to go all out to research everything I possibly can about him.

I know he was in the Army.
The Essex Regt for many years, serving in India and south Africa. He was involved in the Boer war and later fought  in WW1 after joining the Canadian C.E.F.
I know, don't ask...I have no idea how he came to join the C.E.F. that's one more thing to research.
He lived in Essex, Kent and of course Canada at some point.

Several years ago I was lucky enough to get hold of his C.E.F. attestation papers sent to me by the Canadian Archive..
I  have his wax army discharge papers from the Essex Regt. (1906)

I also have a couple of very very tatty photos that seem to have been taken in India. So I'm assuming its the 1st Batt Essex Regt in Bangalore.

This photo was recieved in two parts. It has been laid on a scanner to try to make one good picture..
As you can tell I haven't had the time to photo shop it yet. But I'm hoping to get rid of that crease at some point.

Any info about this second picture would be great as I am only assuming its India.
Please comment below if you can help.
